Roll the truck up to your party.

Halifax's original food truck travels for weddings, corporate events, festivals, backyard parties — anywhere a hot fryer and a crowd can meet. Hand-cut, old-fashioned french fries straight from 100% PEI spuds, smash patties off the flat-top, and the truck out front as the centerpiece.

Catering FAQ

Stuff people ask before they book.

The most common questions about rolling the truck up to your event — answered before you have to ask them.

What happens if it rains?

The truck is the kitchen and it's covered, so the fryer never stops. Your guests need somewhere dry to eat — a tent, garage, indoor space, or covered patio. We'll talk about rain backup during quoting; most venues already have one.

Heavy weather (high winds, lightning) is the one thing that can move us. We give as much notice as the forecast allows.

Do you handle permits or do I?

BUDtheSPUD carries its own commercial vendor licensing, food-safety certification, and liability insurance. We'll send the certificates if your venue needs them on file.

If your event is on public/municipal land (a park, a downtown block, a waterfront pier), the permit is usually held by you or the venue. If you're on private property (backyard, business parking lot, farm), no permit is required — just the property owner's permission.

Can I sample the food before I book?

Absolutely. Come find the truck at our Nine Locks home base (221 Waverley Rd, Dartmouth) on a regular service day and try the menu the way your guests will eat it. That's the best tasting.

For weddings or larger corporate events, we can arrange a small private tasting after the deposit is in — covering the items you're considering for your menu.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Typical lead times by size:

Small (10–30): 3 weeks notice
Medium (30–100): 4 weeks notice
Large (100–300): 6 weeks notice

Wedding season (May–October) books out fast. If you have a date in mind, get the quote in early — even if details aren't finalized — and we'll hold the slot.

Can we customize the menu?

Within reason. The core of every catering menu is what we do best: hand-cut, old-fashioned french fries from 100% PEI spuds, smashed-to-perfection patties, and our world-famous Spud Sauce.

From there, you can mix in named LTO preparations (THE MACnificent, THE DIRTY DIPPER, THE OKLAHOMA JAMMER), add fish & chips (fresh, never frozen haddock), pick condiments and add-ons, and request dietary alternatives. We'll send a menu sheet once we know your headcount.

Is there a minimum headcount?

For a full catering booking, 10 guests is our minimum. Under 10, it's cheaper for everyone if you just come find the truck on a service day.

The maximum on a single truck is around 300. Above that, we add a second truck or collaborate with partners like @ninelocksbrew and @vesselmeats.

How far will you travel?

Anywhere in HRM (Halifax + Dartmouth + Bedford + Sackville) is included in the base quote. Beyond HRM — Truro, Wolfville, South Shore, Annapolis Valley, Cape Breton — gets a per-kilometre travel addition. We've rolled the truck up and down the province.

PEI and New Brunswick are possible for larger bookings; ferry/bridge and overnight logistics get rolled into the custom quote.

What's your cancellation policy?

A deposit (typically 25%) locks your date. Cancellations are handled like this:

More than 30 days out: full deposit refund
15–30 days out: 50% deposit refund
Under 15 days: deposit retained, balance not charged

Weather-related cancellations on our end (we make the call) are always a full refund — that one's on us.
